America's Democracy is Slowly Dying

America’s democracy is slowly dying and turning into fascism, thanks to our dear president, Donald J. Trump.

Fascism is defined as, “a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy,” according to Wikipedia.

The most common example of fascism is obviously the Nazi Regime and Hitler, and there are more than enough similarities between Trump and Hitler.

Trump is currently trying to discredit the results of the election; says that the press is the “enemy of the people”; there is currently a genocide happening in the immigrant camps because immigrant women are being forced to have hysterectomies; ANTIFA, which stands for “anti-fascism” is seen as a major enemy; Trump is trying to erase history by revising it to teach kids a “patriotic history” which will only gloss over colonization and slavery. Any of this sound familiar?

It should. Hitler also used a minority group for the blame of Germany’s problems, like what Trump is doing with the immigrants. Hitler made the people have an uneasy relationship with the press. American soldiers in WWII were ANTIFA, who fought against the genocide and were seen as one of Germany’s greatest enemy. Hitler also changed the curriculum in schools as a “more patriotic” aspect.

One other key factor between the two is that both leaders had an outrageously large military. According to The Balance, the estimated budget for the military this year is around $934 billion. The military budget in 2015 was $601 billion (Washington Post). The United States spends more on defense spending than any other country in the world.

According to Laurence W. Britt, an expert on fascism, stated some early signs of fascism include: disdain for human rights; the supremacy of the military; fraudulent elections; controlled mass media; powerful nationalism; obsession with crime and punishment; disdain for intellectuals; and identification of enemies as a unifying cause.

Trump has shown proof of every sign of early fascism.
