A professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington who was set to retire on August 1 was found dead in his home on Thursday, which prompted Buzzfeed to offer slander on his name.
Mike Adams was not the most popular professor on college campuses as he was very vocal about his right-wing views on American politics. Buzzfeed, known to oppose opinions aligning with that of Adams and other conservatives, took his death as the perfect opportunity to smear him as a result of his controversial views, saying he “was known for his racist, misogynistic tweets” in the headline of the article announcing his death.
Additionally, many progressives took to the Twitter replies to announce their satisfaction with his death. One Twitter user chimed in with, “Looks like the universe took out the trash. Time to clean up the rest of this dumpster fire.” Another response said, “He had it coming.”
Buzzfeed is not recognized as a steller, objective news source by any means. However, nobody expected the breaking news of a man’s death to be reported with such a lack of sympathy. Adams was not expected to be glorified but his family is at least owed respect for the loss of a loved one, regardless of how much Buzzfeed or anyone else feels about his political views.
“It is with sadness that we share the news that the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation involving Dr. Mike Adams, professor of criminology,” a university spokesperson said in a statement. “Please keep his friends and loved ones in your thoughts.”
Adams was found deceased in his home after authorities reported for a wellness check, New Hanover County Sheriff's Lt. Jerry Brewer told BuzzFeed News. His death is currently under investigation and no further details are available at this time.
