Coronavirus: Tips to work from home

Working from home brings many challenges to the table. You might not need to worry about traffic and your outfit anymore, but it can have disadvantages too!

Many people are working from home since the stay at home order started. It's a blessing being able to still have a job, especially during uncertain times. There's an adaptation process that comes with it. Read below for tips to make a work from home lifestyle more adjustable and easier.

1 Find a comfortable set-up

If you're working from home, you are probably using a place that is not ideal for work. This environment can increase stress and fatigue which can lead to decreased performance. Your posture has a lot to do with it. When we are sitting during long periods of time we have to make sure we are doing our best effort to be comfortable.

If you want to improve your posture make sure that the chair is not too high or too low from the table when sitting. You should allow your feet to be flat on the ground for better comfort while you work

You should also try to keep your spine aligned. It's very common to slouch while you're typing. You can fix this issue by lifting the chest and rolling back the shoulders.

Finally, rest your arms on a table in which you can bend the elbows at your sides and your forearms stretched out in front of you.

2 Have a family plan

Make sure to have a schedule and set boundaries with your relatives. Communicate your work and meal hours clearly so you can meet the deadlines and do your job without interruptions. It might be complicated if there are kids involved since they demand lots of time and attention, so maybe you can set specific hours to watch them while other family members work.

3 Take a break from work

Include breaks as a part of your schedule. Make sure you leave your desk and move around to get some water or maybe a snack. Stretch your arms and walk around.

You can consider the possibility of a standing desk to avoid sitting for a long period of time and switch between sitting and standing based on how you feel.

We are going through tough times so these tips are just the beginning of many things that you can do to be comfortable.

Remember that taking care of your mental health and relationships is important as well. Maybe you can include some meditation in your routine, schedule a date night, get dressed, order your favorite food, and try to live one day at a time.
