First coronavirus case confirmed in Latin America



Brazil confirmed the first case of coronavirus in Latin America in a 61-year-old man who traveled to Italy this month.


Multiple cases of the virus have been detected in Lombardy, Italy. The Brazilian man spent 2 weeks in northern Italy on a work trip when he contracted the virus.


He is receiving medical attention at the Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein Institute. He’s in stable condition and isolation at home in Sao Paulo city.


Brazil's national health agency is working on identifying people who were in contact with him during the flight, the hospital and at home. in the hospital, and at home. The agency requested the airline to do research in order to find other possible cases.


Since the virus is highly contagious and it has been spread worldwide, Brazil has expanded their security to investigate for suspected cases.. The Health Ministry determined that people with flu symptoms returning from Italy, Germany, France, Australia, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Philippines should be on the watch list.
