J Balvin & Roddy Ricch Drop Out of VMA's

Reggetonero artist, J Balvin, and Grammy-award winning rapper Roddy Ricch have announced that they will no longer be performing at the MTV video Music Awards this Sunday, August 30th.

It was just two weeks ago that J Balvin had announced via video that he had contracted COVID-19. In the video J Balvin revealed that becoming ill had a big impact on his life. On Monday a representative for J Balvin announced that he would not be performing at the VMA’s, but did not disclose details as to why that decision was made.

Roddy Ricch announced his decision on Instagram live, stating, “My team and I did everything in our power to make this work, due to COVID compliance issues at the last minute we had to call off the performance.”

Ricch continued, “My team and I are safe and everyone’s health is a main priority, as well as giving a quality performance… I appreciate MTV for the opportunity to perform and I hope I can see y’all next year. Stay safe.”

The VMA’s are introducing two new categories that reflect the current state of our world with categories titled: Best music video from home, and Best quarantine performance.
